How do we ensure

What is Ignite Day?

What is Ignite Day?
Leading the future of learning has been a goal of RVIS since the school opened. To be successful in this rapidly changing world, people need to be agile in their thinking, creative in their problem solving, and collaborative in their daily life. The traditional model of school leans towards compliance rather than agency, memorization rather than problem-solving, and passivity rather than engagement.
IGNITE Day is a new approach that offers a unique learning experience designed to help students develop these skills through personalized academics, development of personal identity and talents, and building strong community partnerships. Throughout their time at RVIS, students will flourish in this new approach and find success in school and beyond.

What does it look like?

  • Serve as leaders on school committees & clubs;
  • Engage deeply in social-emotional learning (wellbeing) to ensure they are flourishing as individuals.

Personalized Learning Seminar

Pastoral Care

Advisory sessions focus on building connections and relationships with peers and the Advisory Teacher. Advisors will also integrate age appropriate social-emotional curriculum to further develop interpersonal skills. Weekly assemblies allow for community building and showcasing learning.

Intramurals

The goal of intramurals is to ensure students emerge as confident and collaborative young adults. Playing team sports is an excellent path towards both of these aims. Students engage in weekly intramural sessions and play competitive sports with their peers.

Clubs & Committees

Students further their leadership skills by serving on clubs or committees. Clubs include STUCO, Change My World, MUN and more. Committees may be long-term or short term, and allow students to be part of decision-making, organization and event planning.
